We would like to welcome you to the Mercer County Recorder's Office. In Ohio, the County Recorder has the important task of keeping the vital records, such as, deeds, liens, leases, mortgages, and plats (just to name a few).
The recorder's office is responsible for recording, safekeeping and organizing all documents in a competent and logical manner. many people don't realize the importance of this office. Think about it. One of the biggest investments that you will make in your life is purchasing a home, and you are putting your faith in us to record and protect your documents.
Another important aspect of our lives is our ancestry. Here in our office you will find deeds dating back into the early 1800's. We have a deed and Power of Attorney written in German, Treaty between the United States and Miami Nations of Indians dated 1912, and probably two of our most famous documents is a Lease dated 1830 for land to plant an apple nursery by John Chapman (Johnny Appleseed) and a receipt to John Chapman dated 1833 for 40 apple trees as payment for the lease.
This web site was created with you in mind. Staff, Hours and Holidays introduces the outstanding staff you'll find in the Recorder's Office. You'll also find our office hours and days that the courthouse is closed.
The Documents Filed section is a complete listing of the types of information that you will find in this office. The FAQ is a list of questions that we are asked the most frequently, and may save you a phone call.
Our staff will gladly make copies of our records for you. We can either mail or fax them to you provided we have the appropriate fee in advance.
In order for us to find the correct document, we will need to have some important information. When requesting for a copy, please make sure you give us as much information as possible. We are able to locate our records by looking under the name, legal description, address, or by the Book Volume and Page Number.
**We must have the required fee in advance before we can process a copy request and ask that you send along a self-addressed stamped envelope.
If you are ever in the area, please stop in to say hi, and let us show you our beautiful Courthouse and answer any questions you might have. Thank you for the opportunity to serve you.
