About Us

Disaster preparedness is the main focus of our office. We maintain the County Emergency Operations Plan (EOP), which is a general plan that outlines various Mercer County agencies responsibilities in a disaster. The EOP is supported by other, more detailed, hazard specific plans.

The EMA office can provide disaster preparedness training for your business, agency, club, or civic organization. We also sponsor yearly severe weather spotter training given by a National Weather Service meteorologist. Please call our office if you would like more information on these programs.

The Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) is also coordinated through our office. The LEPC was created by the federal SARA Title III, public right to know laws. Local companies that use or store hazardous chemicals must each year report information on these chemicals to our office. We then work with them to prepare plans to deal with an accidental chemical release into the environment. The Hazardous Material Plan (an annex to the EOP) is tested during a yearly hazardous material exercise.
